A founding member of DİSK and its second biggest component, BİRLEŞİK METAL-İŞ (Birleşik Metal İşçileri Sendikası - United Metal Workers Union) counts more than 25,000 members.
The union was founded in 1949 as Demir İşçileri
Sendikası (Iron Workers Union), to be renamed to Türkiye Maden İşçileri Sendikası (Turkish Mining Workers Union) on 7 October 1956, and to Birleşik Metal İşçileri Sendikası on 4-5 September 1993 following the merger with Otomobil İşçileri Sendikası (Automobile Workers Union).
The flag of BİRLEŞİK METAL-İŞ (photo, photo, photo, photo) is white with the union's emblem.
